Jack Thompson Receives Flowers, Responds

This is just one of a few comments Jack Thompson has made about receiving the flowers. He has made no mention of the attached letter, which was in fact moved up and scheduled to arrive just BEFORE the Flowers.

He has stated that Flowers For Jack is run by Joystiq, and that Take Two Interactive instigated our project to harass him with flowers. There was nothing said about any messages alongside the flowers. He has not officially denied it yet, but I assume he will.

To those of you just joining us, this is the simple case;

Alyson L. Burch and George T. Ettinger (myself), two college students from mid-Michigan, started a small donation project to thinktank a letter of civil intent to send with flowers, harmless, inoffensive FLOWERS to Jack Thompson. In three days we had over one thousand dollars from hundreds of people in a dozen countries and almost every state. When the letter was finished, over 280 people personally requested to sign it, from 40 states and ten countries.

The letter was civil, apologized for crude behavior and actions taken towards him by ignorant gamers, and asked for his statements on serious issues, centrally involving respect and communication. Weighing in at seven pages, it was followed by ten pages of signatures.

When you open a mailbox that should be hard to miss...

Jack has ignored this letter. Personally... I'm surprised. I know many of you are not, but I am. I really thought he'd make an honest statement, even if it was a small or non-public one. This is... disappointing.

Nonetheless, I'll mourn it later. Action is needed. The link to the original thread for the COMPLETE FLOWERS FOR JACK LETTER AND ALL SIGNATURES is at the top of http://www.pixelantenation.com . We need to get that link out everywhere we can, copy that letter to every blog and site we can.

We can't let him hide our real message, much less distort it.

You know, the action itself doesn't surprise me, but it amazes me that he thinks he can actually get away with it. All it would take is three seconds on the Internet to find the darn letter in the first place.

If you ever actually do get a public debate set up with him, you ought to have the first question you ask be about the letter. I'd really like to hear his explanation about this.

What about the media coverage on this? The people you set up, are they presenting his, ours, or a nuetral side?
I doubt they'd try to spin this his way considering his current status as a parriah, and our showing of unity.

His response seems, well, it makes him look really unstable.

I'm curious as to who exactly has confirmed the link to Jack and by exactly what methods.

You should send a letter

You should send him an email or some such, stating that Joystiq didn't send the flowers and that YOU did. Perhaps he would be more inclined to take you seriously, then.

Wasn't the original point of this to find out what it takes NOT to piss him off? Now what are we going to do?

Oh, and I find it hilarious that he's blindly retaliating at Take-Two without any evidence that they had anything to do with this (which they didn't), not unlike when he has a go at Take-Two for all those allegedly GTA-inspired murthers.

Well, I think this reaction of his also serves a purpose, too: We've stepped up and proved that we can be civil by offering an olive branch, and he's reacted by being a raving loony. He's pitching a shit-fit over flowers, not to mention lying about their source... so maybe this will show more people who might otherwise be inclined to believe him that he's a histrionic nutbag.

That is just sad :( I liked the letter. An e-mail, phone call or letter i doubt will help change things. He is messed up.

Its not easy. Though we got a good blurb in a Miami newspapers, this is still a very niche story. We've got the best chances of getting to mainstream if we can push further into our own news.

With any luck, our donation to Child's Play next week (hopefully paypal will sort itself out that soon) will get PA's attention.

If you guys have any suggestions or ideas, go for it. We need all the help we can get.
